I Spy

I read a book! I feel like it’s been ages and it probably has been. I Spy Something Bloody by Josh Lanyon. I thoroughly enjoyed it, got hooked right in by the narrator’s voice. It’s first person.

The narrator is a spy or perhaps ex-spy, trying to reconcile with his ex after a disastrous job. Mark is in bad shape, emotionally and physically, and I really felt for him. I also appreciated the atmosphere of the story where you’re inside Mark’s head, can’t relax, can’t tell what exactly is going to happen, either with his job or, most importantly with his ex, with whom he badly wants to reconcile. Very tight writing, a gripping story. Recommended.

I gather some people couldn’t get past Mark’s character. Maybe I’ve watched too much MI-5, but I had no problem with it. (Not to say any reader is wrong, of course! And Book Utopia Mom gives great review.)

Also, there’s a fantastic dueling review here.

Poison review

Yes, I’ll post something else one of these days, if I ever read again. But a nice review of Poison at Romance Junkies!

…an intriguing mix of sci-fi, mystery and political thriller. The author has written a multi-layered story with many twists and turns that left me in constant suspense. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Tobias and Arel are intelligent and resourceful I enjoyed following their adventures. I was reluctant to leave this world and I hope to visit it again someday.

Thank you, Christina!
