Good stuff

I read Josh Lanyon’s Dangerous Ground the other week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a novella where two men, who are law enforcement officers and partners, come to admit their romantic feelings for each other. I liked the way it started out where Tyler is, in some ways, at a disadvantage—he’s been recently wounded and still recovering, and he’s admitted his feelings for Will who apparently does not reciprocate. The backstory is skillfully woven in and you come to realize Will’s feelings are more complicated than Tyler understands. You also come to realize that Tyler, though vulnerable is very, very tough.

I also liked how clearly different these two characters were. Sometimes occupation can lead to shorthand, especially in a shorter story. But with two characters who have exactly the same job, the writer has to use other, more interesting methods to characterize.

Anyway, Josh Lanyon fangirl here! But, good read!

In other news, Poison got to #11 at Fictionwise. And no longer the lone orange Poor rating. Instead, there’s one rating each, ranging from blue to green to yellow to orange. Much prettier! And that’s what counts.

Feedback

There’s definitely been a mixed reaction to Poison. I always thought I would just not talk about not-so-positive reviews, but I find I want to. I’m okay with them this time, actually. And there are some positives in there as well.

First off, Mrs. Giggles gave Poison a 53. This is my first book to be reviewed by her. So, on the one hand pleased to be reviewed at all (because I’ve had books that were pretty much ignored and that can be demoralizing). On the other hand, she really didn’t like it.

Book Utopia Mom who consistently gives interesting and thoughtful reviews wasn’t wowed. She gave Poison a 33/50. But I actually came away from the review pleased by the aspects of the book she did like. Even if it didn’t work so well for her.

Elisa, who is a sweetheart, gave an overview of the book here.

Elsewhere, Poison hit #13 at Fictionwise, which is quite good for me. On the downside, the one rating is poor and rather glaringly orange.

Ah, well. At All Romance eBooks one rating is 4/5, which is a little more heartening.

In other news, I’m all excited because I’m 10K into my next novel, tentatively titled Feral, which features a werewolf and a cat shifter. Wish me luck in breaking first draft.

Kindle edition of Poison

Hey, Poison is available at Kindle. No picture there yet, but so cool to see Poison up at Amazon.com so soon!

On Sale: Poison

My futuristic, Poison, romance is now on sale at My Bookstore and More. Yay!

You can see the lovely, pretty cover to the right, but here’s the blurb:

In this world, trust is hard to find…and the one thing they need to survive.

Tobias Smator lives down his late father’s execution by avoiding the spotlight—and responsibility. He doesn’t mind what people think of him as long as they leave him alone. Still, in this unremarkable half-life he’s fashioned for himself on deceptively low-tech Rimania, he’s not safe from political intrigue. Someone wants him dead.

Alliance operative Geln Marac’s orders for his first assignment were simple: Stay uninvolved. Those orders go out the window, however, when he delivers an antidote to save Tobias from death by poisoning. His reward? Possible betrayal that lands him in the hands of police interrogators. To protect the Alliance, Geln resorts to a temporary mindwipe.

Tobias is fascinated by the amnesiac man who saved his life. But Geln has attracted the attention of the high-powered Lord Eberly, who would use him as a pawn. Rather than sacrifice Geln to the political wolves, Tobias chooses to embrace his heritage.

Geln’s memory reawakens to a precarious situation with no source of protection—except Tobias. There’s only one way forward for both of them.

Trust—or die.

Warning: this book contains hot nekkid otherplanetary manlove.

Also, Marked was Joyfully Reviewed.

…Liam and Alec are interesting men and it was fun reading about them – especially during those lava hot moments they share. Pick up Marked the next time you go shopping for an unusual werewolf story.

Thank you, Sabella!
