Marked

marked72lg.jpgIn less than two weeks, my new novel, Marked will be released at Samhain! This is a werewolf romance. It is connected to two Jorrie Spencer novels—The Strength of the Pack and The Strength of the Wolf—and Trey Walters from Beautiful Monster also plays a role.

So I can’t wait until December 4! Here’s the blurb:

Marked as prey, Alec refuses to fall for a werewolf. Until he’s forced to turn to Liam for protection.

Alec Ryerson carries a scar over his heart and scars on his psyche, ugly reminders of a nightmare that still doesn’t seem quite real. Even a year later, he stays inside on full-moon nights and avoids most people—until he meets the strange and beautiful Liam.

Liam feels an undeniable pull toward Alec. However Liam is a werewolf; Alec is a human who clearly has trepidations about a relationship. Then Liam discovers he is not the first werewolf Alec has encountered. Alec has been marked for death by the murderous “quad”, a group of twisted werewolves who prey on humans. Now the quad’s sights are set on recruiting Liam’s eight-year-old brother into their murderous pack.

Liam will do everything in his power to protect both his brother and Alec from the wolves, even if it means calling in favors and killing those with whom he once ran.

Because Alec, like it or not, is Liam’s chosen mate.

Reading

Well, I finished Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. It hurt, a little. Well written. I actually stopped reading midway for quite a few days. Because life got busy. But I also think I knew it was all downhill for the characters from there. And I rather hate that feeling. It was just after Lord John and Percy hooked up, and they were happy; and I liked them in that place! (Yes, I realize that neither man would think of it as “hooking up” but, you know.)

Being the romance reader I am, I of course want a happy ending. Maybe in the future. I very much liked both men. I also thought Diana Gabaldon did something quite interesting with Percy, Lord John’s love interest. He’s very surface for a good two-thirds of the book, although with a few insights. And then, after bad stuff happens all this complexity comes out in the character and it totally makes sense. (How’s that for a non-spoilerish talking around a book’s plot?)

I suppose I can just hope that Gabaldon takes a page out of Brockmann’s books and gives these guys an HEA in another story.

Speaking of: I just finished Jules and Robin’s HEA in Suzanne Brockmann’s All Through the Night. Fun quick read, though I wanted more about Jules and Robin and their relationship. A certain reticence there, and I’m not just talking explicit sex, though they may well be related. Anyway, I actually got a kick out of all the pregnant former heroines—Brockmann was doing that on purpose, I believe.

My third read of the week was an ebook, Stephanie Vaughan’s Offworld: Sanctuary. I’m a Vaughan fan and this one did not disappoint. One very broken hero who nevertheless is a fighter and his teddy bear of a lover. I love books with a strong healing trajectory and couldn’t put this one down. Recommended!

Good reviews

I had two lovely reviews at Joyfully reviewed of Zombie and Minder.

Joely Skye wrote a great book, where we see Josh and Kir finally come into their own. The plot is fantastic…

Jules and Robin

I’m a huge Brockmann fan and, among Brockmann’s heroes, I’m a huge Jules fan. And after reading Hot Target, I wanted Jules to end up with Robin as the love of his life.

So, found via jonquil, here’s Brockmann’s take on Jules and Robin. Note: spoilers for Force of Nature, Jules and Robin’s second book. I’ll have to pick up their third book, All Through the Night, real soon now.

Right now, I’m enjoying Diane Gabaldon’s Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. Well, I’m enjoying it when she doesn’t have Jamie Fraser on stage. He just really doesn’t belong in this book and for some reason, I am totally unconvinced by Lord John’s attraction to Jamie. Enough so, that I start feeling uncomfortable when she writes it. Not sure what’s up with that. Percy is a sweetheart, though.
